AdaptBank

An evaluation framework for how LLM agents behave when their environment changes, so a developer choosing an agent can compare numbers and see which one will hold up.

The problem

Apps and websites update, and agents that used them break. AdaptBank measures how well an LLM agent holds up when its environment changes, so a developer choosing an agent can compare numbers instead of guessing.

The framework

AdaptBank is a unified evaluation framework for the environmental robustness of AI agents. Its taxonomy covers four types of drift:

  • Semantic drift
  • Interface drift
  • Workflow drift
  • Policy drift

Agents are scored on three metrics: Robustness Score, Recovery Performance Score and Context Adaptation Time.

What I did

I worked on AdaptBank during a six-week summer research internship at PES University’s Center for Cloud Computing and Big Data (CCBD).

  • Evaluated agent robustness under Semantic drift by running the ToolMisuseBench suite.
  • Computed all three metrics and benchmarked 6 agents, including 2 frontier models.
  • Contributed cross-agent scoring to a standardized Environmental Robustness Score, meant to power an agent leaderboard.
  • Extended coverage to further drift suites (OpenApps, WebArena and tau-bench) spanning Interface, Workflow and Policy drift.

The biggest obstacle was API rate limits: getting through one benchmarking run took 10 to 15 API keys.

Where it stands

The work is continuing informally with the team toward a research paper, which is awaiting publication approval.
